When Jokes Lose Their Punch Lines
Do you remember back when we were all students, we used to jest that if we ever get robbed in the streets we will give everything we own except for our guidebooks? To those who aren’t familiar with it, a guidebook is a small book where all cases and procedures performed by a nursing student is written and recorded. No one graduates with an incomplete guidebook so when March comes in the fourth year of school, every nursing student holds on to their guidebook as if it were an extension of their lives.
Back then, it was a funny joke shared between friends. But when I woke up this morning, I heard from the news that a fourth year nursing student was killed. The details went that a nursing student was heading home late at night, when she got mugged. The robber took her cellphone which she immediately gave but then he still shot her anyway. The nursing student died instantly.
Graduation is just weeks away however, there would be one less student going up to that stage beaming to receive her diploma. It’s really sad. When you think about it, that’s four years of school. The time, the energy and not to mention the money have all gone to waste. Just when she got to that point of reaping the rewards of her sacrifices, it was all taken away.

I heard there were two robbers…
One who got the cellphone and one who shot her by a corner when she ran…
Well, whatever the story is, I feel sorry for her…
