What’s wrong about Pregnancy with Diabetes?

gestational diabetes

Reports have shown that rates of women starting their pregnancies with type 1 or type 2 Diabetes have doubled since 1999. But the statistics on women developing diabetes during pregnancy, which is called gestational diabetes, remains the same and that is the good part about it.

Diabetes is considered a risk factor when the woman is pregnant since it can cause unwanted effects on the woman as well as the baby. Early on the pregnancy, diabetes can cause miscarriages and later on, stillbirth. It can also cause congenital anomalies on the child and there are also times when the baby becomes too big for a vaginal birth.

It is therefore important that women in their reproductive years be taught about the relationship between obesity and being overweight to the development of diabetes. The effects of diabetes during pregnancy should also be included.

There are more and more young women who get pregnant in their teenage years. It is best that they will be educated about diet and health to stop the increasing rates and maybe even decrease it eventually.
