Nurses Health Hazards
Most people think that it’s easy to be a nurse. They seem to overlook all the hazards in being one especially when they are more focused on the huge salaries that will be received on each pay day. But what they seem to ignore are the health risks that every nurse takes when they go to work everyday.
Nurses are the ones who are in constant contact with the clients. These clients are ill, to be sure. They won’t be admitted to hospitals if they were healthy. Their illnesses may range from a simple fever to a very contagious disease. Since it is the job of the nurse to render care, it is safe to assume that they are always in direct contact with these ill clients.
Imagine, you are in direct contact for a full 8 hours with a person who has HIV AIDS, hepatitis b or pulmonary tuberculosis. That’s scary! While administering medications via injection, you can accidentally prick yourself with the needle of a client with AIDS or hepatitis. With that simple mistake, you could contract the disease. It is very very scary.
Other illnesses that nurses are at risk for are UTI, hemorrhoids, varicose veins, and gastric ulcer. For the whole shift, most nurses are busy rendering care to their clients that they don’t often take bathroom breaks. They are always seen hurrying from one bedside to another and don’t have a lot of time to sit down and rest. There are even times, when the ward is busy and understaffed, they don’t get to eat anymore too.
There are emotional stresses on being a nurse too. Nurses have to meet the demands of their superiors at work and be able to give quality care to all of their clients. They also have to handle their client’s emotional stresses as well.
It’s tough to become a nurse. There are a number health hazards that she exposes herself to everyday and the nurses salary that she receives are just enough to compensate it.
