Get Started On the NCLEX-RN Exam
The exam is developed and owned by the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing). They developed 2 exams: the NCLEX-RN, for registered nurses, and the NCLEX-PN, for practical/vocational nurses. These exams would test the knowledge, skills and abilities of the candidate in the safe and effective practice of nursing.
To take the exam, the candidate must apply to the Board of Nursing of his/her choice. The fee for taking the exam is $200 but there are other fees depending on the state board where he is making his application. The candidate must then wait for the ATT (Authorization To Test) before making the schedule for the exam. It can be taken 15 hours a day, 6 days a week in every state in the US. It can also be taken in selected foreign countries as well. Most recently, Philippines and Mexico have been added to the list.
The exam covers the basics in nursing care but one still need to study and review for them to surely pass it. There are plenty of programs and books that teach the candidate what he needs to know when taking the exam so if you can, you should enroll to increase your chances in passing the NCLEX-RN.
