Call Center Nursing: A New Field

feature photo

Back in college, there was a slogan during one of our intramurals week stated, “Nursing is where people are”. It was explained that wherever there are people, there is always at least one who is “nursing” or taking care of others, hence nursing is where people are. It also means that nursing is everywhere and can be practiced in any situation.

Does that mean there is such a thing as “call center nursing” too? I don’t know if you have noticed it but aside from nursing, there is another industry that is gaining as much popularity and that is call centers.

Call center jobs have been a preferred career choice for many young citizens since the pay is well above the minimum and the workplace is satisfying. Although the time to punch in and out are usually at the wee hours of the night to early morning, the compensation is well worth it.

So what does nursing have to do with call centers? It is obviously way out of the field of nursing but there are so many applicants who are nursing graduates, most of whom haven’t taken the licensure exams yet.

The stories about nurses in call centers aren’t pretty. Although there are some who mean well and are really serious about working in a call center (these maybe the ones who were only pushed to nursing because their parents wanted them to), there are more than a handful who have other plans.

Most nurses who get the job, don’t stay for long as some just wait until the contract ends. There are even those who are thick enough to leave just when training ends, after getting their paycheck of course, giving call centers a reason to black list nurses. Most of them have even included a bond in the contract that states that the employee will pay a predetermined amount of money if they aren’t able to finish the contract.

The name of nursing is now tainted among call centers. Hopefully, there are still those who can uphold the integrity of nurses in the call center industry.

  1. good luck on that one…
of all the teams(new hires and trainees) I’ve assisted at work…I don’t think I’ve met any “nursing” people already…

It’s a good thing I guess that our company is upholding it’s word…

I don’t mean to badmouth nurses who are in the call center industry but…they really seem so hilas…hilas in a way thinking that any job aside from being a nurse is just a passe to them, wala lang… kay mga nurse man sila…

    sheesh…
